Where young creatives learn to think like designers
The ProtoToto ways
ProtoToto Design Lab is an arts space that engages children as thinking agents through inquiry, language, sketching, and prototyping.
We make art and we design objects, spaces, and systems with a curious and open mind.
ProtoToto is a fun, safe, and creative hub for discovery, friendship, and connection so we can grow and build a better world.
We are thinkers.
We are makers.
We grow.
We have fun.
Come prototype with us!
At ProtoToto, kids ages 6-11 can take after-school classes, weekend workshops, and school holiday camps grounded in design fundamentals, architecture, graphic design, interior design, and industrial design.
Whether the kids are creating architectural models, functional objects, or artist books, we always start by thinking conceptually, sketching, and testing our ideas through prototyping and discussion.
Along the way, our young creatives improve their analytical skills and problem-solving strategies, deepen friendships, and build intellectual confidence.
Opening Spring 2026!
Our new studio is scheduled to open Spring 2026, on the border of Gowanus with Boerum Hill. It will be equipped with an abundance of art materials and tools, books (we love books), presentation space, chill-out break zones, and healthy snacks (critical for creativity).
ProtoToto was founded by Suzanne LaGasa, a book designer and the former creative director of Dwell magazine. Suzanne developed our curriculum and leads of our instruction along with studio assistants and guest teachers who are passionate about education, design thinking, and having fun along the way.
We aim to engage and honor New York's diverse and vibrant community of designers, educators, and parents.

We’ll be announcing our summer camp schedule in the coming weeks!
All our classes and camps are capped at 12 students and fill up quickly. School pickup is available for our after school classes from PS 133, PS 38, or PS 32 provided there are at least 3 students enrolled for that day. All our classes never exceed 3 hours and we always have two instructors present.
